Jim is the longtime Director of Coaching Services for Vibrant Faith—he’s now transitioned into leading his own coaching services organization while still partnering with the Vibrant Faith team on many grant projects. He’s founder of Surface to Soul Coaching and Coaching School. He provides coaching and consulting services on behalf of Vibrant Faith and its Leading Well Pastoral Development Program, sponsored by the Siebert Lutheran Foundation. Jim has served as a coach and consultant since 1990 and launched Vibrant Faith’s coaching services in 2004, which were focused on helping leaders, teams, and churches be more faith-focused, more strategic, more welcoming, and more generous. In 2019, he developed Vibrant Faith’s ICF-certified Coach Training program, in partnership with Rev. Dr. Felix Villanueva, who serves as the Director of the Surface to Soul Coaching School. Jim currently splits his time between managing and marketing the Coaching School and coaching individuals, teams, and congregations.
Jim has been part of Vibrant Faith’ Leadership Team since 2003. He helped launch Vibrant Faith’s coaching services in 2005 that focused on lifelong faith formation and helping church leaders live and lead well. In 2019, Jim partnered with Rev. Dr. Felix Villanueva to launch Vibrant Faith’s ICF-certified Coaching School. Jim oversees the Coaching School’s marketing activities and the Coaching School Alumni Community, in addition to leading Vibrant Faith’s Leading Well’s Pastoral Leadership Development program. He lives in Minnesota with his wife, Gina. Jim enjoys biking, hiking, and kayaking, and believes that every coach should have a coach.
