What is a Vibrant Faith MasterClass?
A Vibrant Faith MasterClass is a focused look at one aspect of lifelong faith formation, presented by an expert teacher, that incorporates both the Why? and How? of the subject. Our goal is to enhance your knowledge, skills, and confidence for leading faith formation that transforms people and communities.
Each Vibrant Faith MasterClass is taught by a nationally recognized leader in Christian faith formation who is an experienced educator, author, consultant, and program designer.
What does a MasterClass include?
Each Vibrant Faith MasterClass includes:
• Two 90-minute sessions with live presentations by the MasterClass teacher followed by discussion and ideas to guide application to your church
• Resources for your ministry including articles, tools, and resources on Vibrant Faith Catalyst to apply the MasterClass to your setting
How much does a MasterClass cost?
The tuition is $60 per MasterClass. All registrations are on Eventbrite.
What do I need to participate?
Each MasterClass is offered online with recordings and resources provided at Vibrant Faith Catalyst. You can join Catalyst (free) and enroll in your MasterClass (registration links below). Joining Catalyst will allow you to access the resources provided in the MasterClass. You will need access to high-speed internet and a computer, laptop, or tablet with audio and a video camera for the two online sessions. Recordings of the live sessions will be made available to registered participants.
Re-envisioning Adolescent Faith Formation for Today’s World: Insights and Practices
This MasterClass will engage you in re-envisioning faith formation with young people that puts the primary emphasis on their lives and needs today, and how to best nurture their grow in faith and discipleship. The MasterClass will present practices and strategies for designing faith formation in a coronavirus world using digitally mediated and in-person (small group, mentoring) methods and media.
• Session #1. Thursday, May 7 at 12 noon Eastern (90 minutes)
• Session #2. Thursday May 14 at 12 noon Eastern (90 minutes)
Michael Droege has been in youth and family ministry for 30 years. Along with his coaching work with Vibrant Faith, Michael currently serves as Associate Pastor of Wilson Memorial Church in Watchung, NJ, as an adjunct professor at Drew Theological School (Drew University), and is a frequent workshop and conference speaker with two decades of experience training and coaching leaders.
Designing Adult Faith Formation to Engage All Adults in Today’s World
This MasterClass will engage in you designing faith formation that can reach all of the adults in your community – young adults, midlife adults, mature adults, and older adults – using a variety of digitally mediated and in-person (small group, mentoring) approaches, methods, and media that are suited for today’s coronavirus world and beyond.

Sister Janet Schaeffler is an Adrian Dominican Sister who has worked in parish and archdiocesan ministry in faith formation. She is currently ministering as an adult faith formation consultant and presenter. The author of hundreds of articles and several publications including Deepening Faith: Adult Faith Formation in the Parish (Liturgical Press, 2016). She teaches online courses through Boston College and the University of Dayton. She publishes GEMS – a monthly newsletter flowing from an ongoing international adult faith formation best practices study (www.janetschaeffler.com).

This MasterClass will engage you in re-envisioning faith formation with children (0-10 years old) and parents that puts the primary emphasis on their lives and needs today, and how to best nurture their grow in faith and discipleship. The MasterClass will present practices and strategies for designing faith formation in a coronavirus world that reinvents current programming and develops new and innovative approaches using a wide variety digitally mediated and in-person methods and media.

Rev. Dr. Tanya Marie Eustace Campen is an ordained deacon in the Rio Texas Conference and currently serves as Director of Intergenerational Discipleship for the Rio Texas Conference Office. She has a Masters of Divinity from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary and a Doctorate in Christian education and congregational studies from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary. Her research focus is children’s spirituality. She has more than 20 years of experience as a Christian educator, youth director, and minister to children and families in the local church. She regularly teaches faith formation courses, webinars, and workshops for ministry leaders.
Leading in a Time of Transition: The Why, What, & How of Church Reinvention
When a crisis hits a community, a nation, the world, the disruptions tend to scale us back to bare essentials. We do the things that matter most. As we emerge from the crisis, there are forces that pull us in a variety of directs, some backward, some forward, some sideways. There are organizations thrive in disruptions while others die. What’s the difference? This MasterClass will focus on the theory and practice of church reinvention. Reinvention is a mindset and a toolkit that helps an organization successfully navigate any crisis it faces and keeps it prepared for the next one.

Jim Merhaut is an award-winning author, national motivational speaker, internationally-known leadership training and an International Coaching Federated Certified Coach. He holds a Master of Science degree in Education from Duquesne University with an emphasis in adult formation. Jim has authored and co-authored several books and published dozens of academic and popular articles and essays on leadership and relationships.
Developing Playlists of Faith Formation Content and Experiences for All Ages
Learn how to develop playlists of curated content and experiences (activities, videos, podcasts, articles) for families and age groups that provide a way to bring faith formation to people in multiple settings – self-directed, mentored, at home, in small groups. Learn how to use digital methods and platforms to engage people in using the playlists you create. Playlists are an essential tool during this time of coronavirus and will continue to be in the future as we seek to reach people in their daily lives with faith forming experiences.

Rev. Kathy Pittenger is an Ordained Deacon and serves as Children’s Initiatives Coordinator for the Michigan Conference of the United Methodist Church. Previously she served as the Pastor of Lifelong Faith Formation for Central United Methodist Church in Waterford, MI. She earned a Masters of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary. Her passion lies in the areas of children¹s ministry, literacy awareness, discipleship pathways, and walking with people on their spiritual journey. Kathy has been involved with local school partnerships for over six years.
