Experience How It Works

The Sacred Stories Project includes individual guides for a Leader Session and three Participant Sessions—all designed to seed the start of a storytelling culture in your church. The simple goal is to invite members of your congregation into a simple, progressive way to tell the stories of their life. The outcome of this process has the power to transform your community and open your people to new depth in their relationship with God. Though these sessions are designed for small gatherings, they can also be used for larger-scale gatherings such as retreats, seminars, and congregational events.

These guides work best when you tie them to the natural rhythms of your congregation. That could mean:

  • Offering it to your small groups as a seasonal focus (summer/fall/winter/spring).
  • Making it a central practice during special seasons on your church calendar (Lent/Advent).
  • Using it to kick off the new year, or the start of the school year, or to accompany a special sermon series.
  • Incorporating it into a congregational tradition such as a Wednesday night meal, a fall retreat, or a set of church membership gatherings.

The Sacred Stories Project offers your people a simple, safe, and “normal” way to share aspects of their story of origin in natural, genuine ways. And you get a more connected, honest, and “known” congregation. Also included is a 15-minute “onramp into the power of storytelling” video featuring Adam Young, trauma therapist and host of the popular podcast The Place We Find Ourselves. And as a bonus, we’ve included Adam Young’s two one-hour Vibrant Faith MasterClass sessions on the power of storytelling in community.
